HOT TO MIX AND MATCH YOUR DINNERWARE

When creating a tablescape, many people focus on the dinnerware first. It makes sense – the plates are usually the biggest and most noticeable element on the table. But with so many options available, it can be hard to know where to start when choosing dinnerware. Do you mix and match or stick to a set? Should all your plates be the same color or pattern, or can you mix and match different colors and patterns?

There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to mixing and matching dinnerware. The best way to figure out what works for you is to experiment. However, there are a few guidelines that can help you get started.

When mixing and matching dinnerware, there are three main elements to consider: color, pattern, and texture. You can mix and match different colors, patterns, and textures, or you can stick to one element. For example, you could choose all white plates with different textures (e.g., one matte plate, one textured plate), or you could mix different colors and patterns (e.g., a striped plate with a floral plate).

Color is probably the easiest element to mix and match. You can choose plates in different colors that coordinate with each other or go for a more eclectic look by choosing plates in contrasting colors. If you want to stick to one color but vary the shades, opt for dinnerware in graduated tones of the same color – this always looks chic!

Pattern is another element that’s easy to mix and match. To mix different patterns, choose plates with patterns that share at least one common color. For example, if you have a floral plate, you could pair it with a striped plate that has some of the same colors as the flowers in the floral design. If you want to keep things more simple, look for plates with subtle patterns – these are easier to mix and match than bolder designs.

Texture is the third element to consider when mixing and matching dinnerware. Plates come in all sorts of different textures – from smooth porcelain to rough stoneware – so there’s plenty of room for experimentation here! As a general rule of thumb, it’s best to stick to two different textures when mixing and matching dinnerware. For example, you could choose a smooth plate for your entrée and a textured plate for your salad course. Or if you want all your plates to be different colors, opt for two different textures (e.g., one matte plate and one glossy plate).

Remember – there are no hard and fast rules when it comes to mixing and matching dinnerware! The most important thing is that you have fun experimenting until you find a combination that you love.

COLORS

There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to choosing colors for your dinnerware, but there are a few guidelines that can help you create a cohesive and stylish table.

The first step is to choose a color palette. You can base this on the overall style of your dining room or the theme of your event. For example, if you're hosting a fall dinner party, you might want to use earthy tones like burgundy, brown, and orange. If you're looking for a more modern look, try using black, white, and silver.

Once you've chosen your colors, you can start mixing and matching different pieces of dinnerware. If you're not sure where to start, try mixing different textures and patterns. For example, you might pair a white ceramic plate with a black metal fork. Or you could use a solid-colored plate with a patterned plate.

If you want to add some visual interest to your table, try using different sizes and shapes of dinnerware. For example, you might want to use small plates for appetizers and larger plates for the main course. Or you could use square plates for the salad course and round plates for the dessert course.

Finally, don't forget about the little details that can make a big difference in the overall look of your table. Use coordinating napkins, place mats, and tablecloths to pull everything together. And don't forget to add some finishing touches like candles or flowers to really make your table shine.

PATTERNS

Patterns are a great way to add visual interest to your table. They can also be a great conversation starter! If you have a collection of dinnerware that you love, don’t be afraid to mix and match. Here are a few tips on how to mix and match patterns:

-If you have a lot of patterns that you want to use, start by selecting one or two that will be your anchors. These should be the largest or most dominant patterns.
-From there, choose one or two smaller accent patterns. These can be used on chargers, napkins, or even as dessert plates.
-Finally, add in some solid colors to tie everything together. This could be in the form of plain white dinner plates or a colored glassware.
-Remember, less is more! Too many patterns can be overwhelming. Start with a few and build from there.
